You Can Do It: A Poetry Workshop for Beginners, and Others with Suzanne Cleary via Zoom


Our Writers Center community and neighbors have requested an Introduction to Poetry Writing workshop, and here it is! This workshop is an introduction to writing poetry, designed for those who are brand new to writing poetry, and also for those who want to reenergize their poems by revisiting the basics. With a focus on core poetic techniques, we will read model poems and use them as the basis for writing exercises and weekly assignments.  Expect a supportive circle of writers, and lots of advice, tips, and even (should I say this?) tricks.

Suzanne Cleary’s Crude Angel (BkMk Press 2018) is her fourth full-length poetry collection. Beauty Mark (BkMk 2013) won the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry, the Nassar Poetry Prize, and the Paterson Award for Literary Excellence. Recipient of a Pushcart Prize and the Cecil Hemley Memorial Award of the Poetry Society of America, she has enjoyed residencies at Yaddo and MacDowell. Her poems appear in national and international journals, most recently in The Moth, as one of four finalists chosen by Nick Laird for the annual Moth Poetry Prize https://www.themothmagazine.com/a1-page.asp?ID=8466&page=21 She teaches as core faculty in the MFA in Creative Writing Program of Converse College, and is completing her fifth book.  Her website is www.suzanneclearypoet.com
