Writing Workshop: How to Tell the Story of Your Life with Danielle Trussoni

This is a six-week workshop that begins on Tuesday July 9th and ends Tuesday August 13th.

You have a personal story to tell. Now what?
After you’ve made the decision to write about a personal experience, it can be difficult to know what form will best serve that story. Fiction, memoir, narrative essay – all of these forms are possibilities, and all have specific strengths and weaknesses that might support your narrative in different ways. The question is: What form is right for your story.
This workshop will be a space in which writers discuss their personal story, with the goal of finding or perfecting the formal expression of that story. We will discuss the questions writers face when writing about family, friendships, or another experience taken from real life. We will discuss literary forms such as memoir, literary essay, the short story, and the novel with the goal of helping writers choose the perfect genre. We will read and discuss written work, and experiment with alternative ways of writing and framing stories, in an open and constructive environment. Our aim is to get our stories off the ground and going in the right direction, whatever genre suits them.
