Writing the Walls 2019

Writing the Walls 2019

Writing the Walls 2019 presents an afternoon of poetry readings, workshops, and conversations celebrating the interplay of visual art and the written word. The event features a discussion between sculptor Rona Pondick and Hudson Valley MOCA founder Livia Straus as well as the 13th Annual Poets’ Walk, which premieres a selection of 43 poems and theatrical presentations interpreting pieces from the exhibition Death is Irrelevant.

The selected work will hang alongside the artwork, it was inspired by, from April to July. This year’s revelry includes an introductory reading by Donna Barkman, a conversation featuring sculpture Rona Pondick, and HVMOCA co-founder Livia Strauss, the Poets’ Walk Reading, and this year, the opportunity to attend a writing workshop based on art and word with poet Nicholas Powers.

Thirteen years ago, Writing the Walls manifested as the brainchild of Studio Theater in Exile
Artistic Director Mara Mills and Hudson Valley MOCA Co-Founder Livia Straus. Since then, it has
successfully used visual arts as a conduit for literary inspiration, with its founders committed
to engaging a diverse community of writers, artists, and audience. Writing the Walls welcomes
poets and playwrights of all ages and abilities.
