Add art into your life!  This free and exciting weekend of art discussions, demonstrations, workshops, and displays aims to inspire and encourage visitors to make creativity a rewarding and important part of your own life.  Join us and discover how art can make every day richer….you don’t need to be an artist to be creative!

Friday, June 27, 5:30pm

Threads of Experience: Consideration of Creativity, Dr. Dustan Osborn

This keynote address by board member, oncologist, photographer, and writer Dustan Osborn explores the importance of art and creativity in our lives and the vital role museums and gardens can play.  This talk will be followed by a reception.

Weekend of Creativity – Artistic Practice

Explore several types of art practice with varying levels of complexity and commitment to inspire and give rise to your own inner artist. 

There will be a limited number of spots for participants in each workshop, and sign up sheets will be available at the museum beginning June 27.  Those who do not participate in the workshops are welcome to watch.

Snacks and light lunch will be available for purchase.

11am-12:30pm – Photography Composition with Dustan Osborn

Using his own works as examples, Dustan Osborn describes how to select and arrange elements to create “still lifes” to photograph.

1:30-3:30pm – Photo Cyanotypes for All Ages with Bruce Dunbar

Visual artist and Adams School of Art instructor Bruce Dunbar leads a hands-on workshop for all ages that explores this early photographic process.  This workshop is weather dependent.

1:30-3:30pm – Handbuilding Pinch Pots with Kiara Taylor

Ceramicist and ASOA teacher leads participants of all ages in a workshop of basic pottery techniques.

1:30-3:30 C.J. Guerin: Monoprints on a Portable Printing Press

Artist and ASOA instructor C.J. Guerin leads participants in this hands-on workshop that uses simple materials to create one-of-kind prints.

3:30-5pm – Ruby Silvious: Waste Not!

Artist Ruby Silvious demonstrates how to turn everyday objects, such as used tea bags, eggshells, acorns, and so on, into canvases to paint and decorate.

3:30-5pm – Make Your Own Greeting Cards with Robin Schwalb

Learn from quilt artist Robin Schwalb how to mine magazines, old postcards, and other sources of pictures and words to create your own unique greeting cards to share or keep.

 

Sunday, June 29

2-4pm – Your Inner Artist: Show and Tell

We invite you to bring your ideas about and products of your creative life to share, show, and discuss.  Discover new ideas and refreshed inspiration with this display of participants’ art works and lively conversation, with topics introduced by experienced individuals.  We will also strategize how to make time and space for art in our hectic schedules and share group projects and ideas to explore.
