Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) continues it’s 2017 Play Reading Series with

PRS3: August Reading of Monologues

Beginning on  Friday, August 11th  in Ossining, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) presents its third 2017 Play Reading Series with PRS3: August Monologues: Barefoot in the Box, nine new pieces directed by stage, screen and TV professional and acting coach Bob Rogerson. Grit, longing and lies abound in this intriguing mix of comedy and drama that reveals the dark and lighter sides of the human experience. The pieces have all been developed and dramaturged through WCT’s ongoing lab workshop process where member actors and writers bring new pieces to life.

The production runs evenings Friday and Saturday, August 11 and 12 at 8pm, plus matinees Saturday, August 12 at 2pm and Sunday, August 13 at 3 pm at WCT’s new performance space at 23 Water Street, Ossining, NY, next to the train station.  The Sunday matinee will be followed by a talk-back with the playwrights and director.   Tickets are $15 for general admission with discounts available for WCT members, seniors, students and groups of 4+.  Limited seating; advance purchase is suggested.  Purchase tickets online at wctheater.org.

Over Easy by Natalie Bates performed by Jim Brownold: When Larry left his wife in a fit of anger, he didn’t realize just how much he’d miss her – and a special talent only she possesses.

Counting Fingers by Linda Bidwell Delaney performed by Lynne Marcus: When Marie tells of an argument with her son, many long-held secrets are revealed.

Sylvie’s Song by Carol Mark performed by Tom Lloyd​: A smoky speakeasy in Harlem is an unlikely place to find redemption – but that’s the power of the blues, though even the blues can’t heal every wound.

The Dancing Girl on the 4 Train by Evelyn Mertens performed by Susan Kay: A woman on a disabled New York City subway heading uptown takes an inward journey as she tries to come to terms with her faithless lover and the self she longs to be.

By Sand or Sea by Pat O’Neill performed by Rebecca Werner: A woman struggles against the tides of her life.

Alibaster, the Man or the Child by Matt Silver performed by Pat O’Neill: When a developmentally challenged man is left home alone, he plans five activities of fun that mother would never approve of.

Inside & Out by Misha Sinclair performed by Dawn Brown-Berenson: When the world gives you oranges, you make apple juice.

Words of a Bitten Girl by E.M. Tustian performed by Emily Aronoff:​ A college student, sitting on a bench by a lake on campus, ponders her encounter with a mischievous squirrel.

It’s Just a Number by Jane Ann Valentine performed by Rahiem Morgan Wilson: A man contemplates his betrothed and wonders: Is there such a thing as unconditional love?

WCT Board Member Rogerson has worked in virtually every medium of the entertainment industry, including stage, screen, and television He has directed amateur and university stages (Canvases/42nd Street BlackBox; Comic Potential/Newport News;); professional venues (Shell Shock/NYC; You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown/Boston; and his own adaptation of Twain’s musings to create Adam & Eve (As Seen Through the Pen of Mark Twain). A founding member of The Actors’ Process, an actor’s continuing study program that addresses the work of professional actors, he is a proud member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA. He directed a reading of Angelo Parra’s The Mnemonist for WCT.

WCT’s 2017 Play Reading Series will conclude with an October production of 10 Minute Plays that will run four performances from October 20 to October 22.

Westchester Collaborative Theater is a multicultural, cooperative theater company located in Ossining, NY, dedicated to developing new work for the stage and bringing live theater to the community. It is comprised of local playwrights, actors, and directors who employ a Lab approach in which new stage works are nurtured through an iterative process of readings, critiques, and rewrites. When work is ready for production, it is produced for the public at our performance space.

WCT is committed to furthering theater arts in our community. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation and a recipient of production grants from ArtsWestchester and New York State Council on the Arts.
