PRS2: July Reading of One Act Plays

Ossining, NY – On Friday, July 21^st, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) continues its 2017 Play Reading Series with PRS2: July Reading of One Act Plays directed by accomplished director Nathan Flower, professor at NYU Tisch of the Arts. The four plays, a merry blend of insightful drama and engaging comedy, were developed and dramaturged through WCT’s ongoing lab workshop process where member actors and writers bring new pieces to life.  The production runs Friday 21^st at 8pm, Saturday 22^nd at 2pm and 8pm and Sunday 23^rd at 3 pm at WCT’s headquarters, 23 Water Street, Ossining, NY.  The Sunday, July 23^rd performance will be followed by a talk-back with the playwright and director.   Limited seating; advance purchase is suggested.  Tickets are general admission with discounts available for WCT members, seniors, students and groups of 5+.  Purchase tickets online at wctheater.org.
The plays are:

The Park by Susan Courtney: It’s a dog eat dog world and Joan has had it. Years working in the cut-throat world of executive recruiting in NYC has left its mark on her.

Got No Claim by Carol Mark: You don’t go to the funeral.  Not when you’re the mistress.   And especially not when you’re the other mistress.

Missouri Pals by Joe McDonald: Two battle bruised soldiers from opposite sides of the Civil War come to realize that they were old pals as youngsters.

The Erythrosine Ballad by Pat O’Neill: A chance meeting at a bus stop sends two would-be passengers on a ride down the blurred lines of reality.

Director Nathan Flower, prior to NYU, taught at Rutgers, the Actors Movement Studio, The Neighborhood Playhouse, Columbia University and the Maggie Flanigan Studio.  His work has been seen off-Broadway and at BAM, Judson Church, Classic Stage Company, the Culture Project plus the Shakespeare Festival in Neuss-Germany and the Festival at Syros-Greece. He recently directed WCT’s reading of Sydney Blake’s romantic comedy Lardo.

WCT’s 2017 Play Reading Series will continue with two more productions that will each run four performances over one weekend. A variety of play genres, full length, monologues and one acts will be included as part of the company’s commitment to develop new works. Each piece will have been developed in WCT workshop labs and will participate in the collaborative dramaturgy process. Audience feedback during each of the talk-back performances will facilitate further development of the work. The next reading in the series will be a collection of monologues directed by Bob Rogerson and will take place August 11 – 13^th.

The Westchester Collaborative Theater is a multicultural, cooperative theater company located in Ossining, NY, dedicated to developing new work for the stage and bringing live theater to the community. It is comprised of local playwrights, actors, and directors who employ a Lab approach in which new stage works are nurtured through an iterative process of readings, critiques, and rewrites. When work is ready for production, it is produced for the public at our performance space.
