Visual Arts Lecture Series — Martha Rosler


Martha Rosler, multimedia artist and writer, will be lecturing on her work’s relevant political ideas and how these ideas manifest in her writing, teaching, and advocacy. Following her lecture, Rosler will be interviewed by a group of students from various disciples about her life and work and opening up a discussion to explore current political issues. It will be held at Sarah Lawrence College on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in Heimbold Visual Arts Center’s Donnelley Film Theatre at 5:15 p.m. This event is free to attend and open to the public.

Martha Rosler is an American artist who works in video, photography, text, installation, and performance. Rosler is known for exploring social issues and raising awareness through her art. Her performance piece and video Semiotics of the Kitchen, which parodies early cooking shows, has been called a pioneering work of feminist video art. Rosler is also a writer, having published over sixteen books of her art and her critical essays on art, photography, and culture. Rosler has been awarded the Oskar Kokoschka Prize, the Distinguished Feminist Award by the College Arts Association, and the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Guggenheim Museum, among others.

This lecture is in conjunction with the Inaugural Year series at Sarah Lawrence College on the theme of Democracy and Education.
