Upstate Art Weekend at The Gallery at Yellow Studio: Fiber Forward Artists’ Talk with Shweta Bist, Janine Brown, Jocelyn Russell and Katie Truk

| |

The Gallery at Yellow Studio is a participant in Upstate Art Weekend 2026 and presents special Upstate Art Weekend programming: an Artists’ Talk with exhibiting artists Shweta Bist, Janine Brown, Jocelyn Russell, and Katie Truk on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 2pm to 3:30pm.

The talk is held in conjunction with Fiber Forward, a group exhibition on view from May 30 through June 28, 2026, that brings together 38 women and non-binary artists examining fiber art as a site of experimentation and critical inquiry. Curated by Tina Villaveces, the exhibition challenges conventional perceptions of the medium, presenting work that navigates the boundaries between tradition and innovation, material and meaning. Sculpture, installation, embroidery, weaving, and mixed media sit alongside activist craft kits, quilts made from repurposed domestic textiles, and large-scale fiber installations.

Across the varied approaches in the exhibition, common threads emerge: the politics of women’s labor and the domestic sphere, the weight of memory and material, the tension between fragility and resilience, and the expansive possibilities of fiber as a vehicle for both personal and collective meaning. Many of the artists work with found, secondhand, or repurposed materials, bringing new life and new meaning to what has been discarded or overlooked.

The Artists’ Talk takes place during the exhibition’s closing weekend; the exhibition closes Sunday, June 28, 2026.

The event is free and all are welcome.
