THE YONKERS PHILHARMONIC presents CONNECTIONS on SATURDAY, November 1, 2025 3:00 pm
Porcelana de Oro – Cristobal MarYan
Elgar Cello Concerto, Op. 85 – Hannah Holman, soloist
Symphony #4 in E Minor, Op. 98 – Johannas Brahms
The Yonkers Philharmonic celebrates the connection between the orchestra, patrons of the arts and audience; how they’re intertwined as a collective in bringing music to life. Life experience, for example, played a critical role in the musical development of Johannes Brahms, who only began composing his 4th symphony at age 52. Composer Cristobal MarYan, describes himself as an eclectic Mexican composer who writes contemporary classical music as well as music for films, television, theater, and video games. He is also an ex-diplomat who served as Head of Culture at the Mexican Embassy in China from 2022 to 2024. Golden Porcelain is a symphonic present from Mexico to China marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The musical piece receives its name from the intrinsic relationship between Chinese porcelain and Talavera (a world-renowned hand-painted ceramic from Puebla, Mexico). Finally, soloist Hannah Holman joins the orchestra for Elgar’s Cello Concerto – a lament to a lost world after WWI.
