The Written Word – A Virtual Photography Exhibit

The Written Word
A Virtual Photography Exhibit

Photographers from The Ground Glass have answered a provocative challenge in presenting their latest exhibit, The Written Word.

From the nearly 5000-year-old Egyptian language of hieroglyphics to the modern alphabet and first printing press, the ability to write has enabled humans to know the thoughts of other people without speaking directly to them.  Now, in the 21st century, and books aside, the written word is more accessible than ever, thanks to the Internet, social media platforms and texting.

The exhibit is focused on using photography, a visual medium, to express and/or interpret the written media in our daily lives.  It is an exploration of how we, as individuals or as a community, interact with the written word in its many forms.

Although easily taken for granted, the written word has a profound effect on our daily lives.  This commonplace form of communication informs us, sells to us, preserves traditions and memories, expresses feelings, transmits powerful ideas and even saves lives.

Is it any wonder a picture is worth a thousand words?
