The Seafarer by Conor McPherson
Following on the heels of our much-celebrated production of Dancing At Lughnasa, we return to the theatrical landscape of magnificent Irish storytelling with this Tony-nominated black comedy. Influenced by Celtic folklore and set on Christmas Eve in a coastal town north of Dublin, it is a bold, magical tale of hope and despair. McPherson’s sparkling, witty dialogue and brilliant creation of four raffish hard drinking Irishmen enters Faustian territory when they play a game of poker for the highest possible stakes with an uninvited mysterious guest. The Seafarer proves that although we may live in a rational age, our fear of the unknown is very much alive and well.
“The Seafarer may just be the pick me up play of the season!” – The New York Times
