The Sanctuary Series presents cellist Carter Brey in Recital with Benjamin Pasternack, piano

Carter Brey was appointed Principal Cellist of the New York Philharmonic in 1996. He appears with the orchestra as soloist almost every season, and has appeared as soloist with virtually all of the other major orchestras in the United States, performing under the batons of prominent conductors including Claudio Abbado, Semyon Bychkov, Sergiu Comissiona, and Christoph von Dohnányi.

He is a member of the New York Philharmonic String Quartet, and has made regular appearances with the Tokyo and Emerson string quartets as well as The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and at festivals such as Spoleto, and the Santa Fe and La Jolla Chamber Music festivals. Carter, who grew up in South Salem cites as his major musical influences Judy Garland, Jascha Heifetz, Mstislav Rostropovich, Glenn Gould, and The Beatles. The event is followed by an artist reception.
