The Pete Malinverni Trio: Reimagining the Classics
“Pete Malinverni is one wild cat…his playing can be dark, gritty and oddly rapturous…he digs into the piano and emerges with exotic treasure…” Karl Stark, Philadelphia Inquirer
Pete Malinverni, a fixture on the New York City Jazz Scene since the early 1980s, has continued to develop his art, constantly finding more to discover in the works of composers of the Great American Songbook, like Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Leonard Bernstein, along with his original compositions and music from the canon of the African-American Spiritual. Taken together, Pete’s music, while drawn from many sources, is an honest portrait of the artist/citizen he is. We’ll hear some of that on this evening of heartfelt, approachable music.
