The MADONNA in Italian Art

The Holy Virgin has been the artistic subject of so many painters through the centuries of our Catholic Christian culture. With times, the features of the Madonna have undergone changes, such as her gown and ornaments, but mostly her representation reflects the current wave of adoration of the Madonna which inspired the artist. Professor John Coppola MFA MA will guide us through the great number of Italian paintings from the Thirteenth century to the end of the Renaissance. From masterpieces by the great artists of the Renaissance, Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Giorgione, Titian and Michelangelo, to the paintings by Caravaggio, Annibale Carraci, Luca Giordano, Salvatore Rosa, Gianmaria Crespi, Tiepolo, and Francesco Guardi.
