The Line Loves the Sentence: A Poetry Craft Class with Rebecca Morgan Frank (via Zoom)
Looking to enliven your work and expand your approaches to the poetic line? Whether you’re looking for revision strategies or new approaches to generating work, come explore the art of the sentence in poetry in this afternoon workshop. Through readings and generative exercises that explore syntax through one-sentence poems; journeys into the art of questions and exclamations; poems with end-stopped lines; and more, we’ll use the practice of making poems to dig into the relationship between the sentence and the line.
NB: This craft class will be held on Zoom. It will be capped at 20 students. Scholarship information will be available in January and will be be due on February 15th. Please read the course policies page before signing up for any of our workshops.
Rebecca Morgan Frank’s fourth collection of poems, Oh You Robot Saints!, was published by Carnegie Mellon in February 2021. Her previous collections are Sometimes We’re All Living in a Foreign Country, The Spokes of Venus, and Little Murders Everywhere, finalist for the 2013 Kate Tufts Discovery Award. Her poems have appeared in The New Yorker, American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Orion, The Kenyon Review, Pleiades, Poetry Ireland, and elsewhere, and her collaborations with composers have been performed and exhibited across the country. She is the recipient of the Poetry Society of America’s Alice Fay di Castagnola Award and fellowships from such places as the Mississippi Arts Commission and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Co-founder and editor of the online magazine Memorious, Frank lives in Chicago, where she teaches in the MFA Program in Prose and Poetry at Northwestern University.
