THE CONTEMPORARY WATERCOLORS OF MICHAEL MENDEL
Michael is a representational watercolorist, painting under the nom de plume of ZEPEL. His paintings focus on everyday objects and activities. Michael was born in Germany in 1934. He and his parents fled the Nazi regime of Adolph Hitler in the fall of 1938, arriving in America in 1940 by way of Holland and Cuba. After graduating from City College of New York (’56) and a stint as infantry officer at Ft. Benning, GA., Michael made art and design his career. He opened his own graphic design studio in 1979 and became responsible for the creation of hundreds of record album covers for artists like Etta James, Tony Bennett, Gladys Knight, the N.Y. Philharmonic and the soundtrack albums for “The Godfather” and “Serpico.”He has participated in group exhibitions at The National Arts Club, The Lyme Art Association, Woodstock Arts Fair and The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit.
