The Cinematic Art of Giuseppe Tornatore’s “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso” – Part 2

The apocalyptic destruction of the Cinema Paradiso, a Church-managed, B-category movie house does not augur well for the inhabitants of Giancaldo, a small backwater Sicilian town. However, from the smoldering ashes of the devastated theater, the Nuovo Cinema Paradiso is born, and hope springs anew. Join us as we resume our review and study of Tornatore’s “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso”. Using the darkest hours of the cinema’s fiery demise as a point of departure, we will follow and analyze the “progress” of modern Sicilian (and Italian) society, and the personal and professional growth of the film’s protagonist Salvatore Di Vita, AKA Totò.
