The Body as a Doorway into Mystery with Brian Turner (Zoom)
In this generative workshop, we’ll consider the body as a space and as a doorway into tenderness, wonder, compassion, surprise, struggle, reverence, mystery, and more. We’ll focus mostly on the human body—how it might serve as an archive and as a conduit to memory and experience. That said, we’ll also consider the earth itself as a body, along with the lifeforms that dwell here, from the micro to the macro. I’ll bring a packet of poems to help us learn from our contemporaries—while doing my best to share approaches I’ve learned from poets and thinkers over the years. As always, it’s my hope that these approaches and insights might offer inroads into your own creative journey.
BIO: Brian Turner has five collections of poetry, from Here, Bullet to The Dead Peasant’s Handbook (all with Alice James Books), and a memoir—My Life as a Foreign Country (with W.W. Norton & Co.). He’s the editor of The Kiss and co-edited The Strangest of Theatres. He lives in Florida with his dog, Dene, the world’s sweetest golden retriever.
