\”The Art of Retirement\” Drawings and Paintings by Frank Sierzega

Harrison Council for the Arts presents “The Art of Retirement” Drawings and Paintings by Frank Sierzega at the Harrison Public Library on view April 7 to May 3, 2019 with an opening reception April 13 from 2:00 to 4:00pm.

Frank Sierzega, a graduate of Harrison High School, received his BA from Fredonia College in upstate New York.  He also attended the College of New Rochelle, and studied illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.

Frank has worked as a free-lance illustrator and graphic artist.  In 1987, he became a full-time staff artist for JA Sexauer Inc., of Scarsdale, NY for 15 years.  Frank was responsible for designing and illustrating brochures and catalogs many of which included “Kicker,” the super mule mascot.   In June 2006, Mr. Sierzega became a full-time worker in the Harrison  DPW, in the Parks division.  Frank retired in June, 2016, and is still retired.

Frank enjoys being out in nature, and with his camera, hunts for interesting and inspiring subjects, such as orchids and lotuses at the NY Botanical Gardens, waterfalls in the Catskills and Berkshires, or surprises found in his own backyard.  He has visited some of the National Parks in the west, such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Grand Teton and Yellowstone, each having their own unique and magical images.

Frank has been using pastels for several years and appreciates their immediacy and their intensity of color.  More recently, he has tried acrylic painting on canvas and hopes to become more comfortable and confident with each new painting.

The exhibit may be viewed Mondays and Wednesdays 9:30am to 9:00pm; Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays 9:30am to 5:30pm and Sundays 1:00pm to 5:00pm.  For info call the Library 914-835-0324 or see harrisonpl.org.
