The 65th NY Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War — a talk by Chris Barrie

The 65th NY Volunteer Infantry, who fought in the Army of the Potomac and the Army of the Shenandoah throughout the Civil War, found themselves in a number of tight places during the war.  Their descriptions in letters, diaries, and speeches reveal them to be in some ways ordinary human beings, but also human beings capable of experiencing enormously challenging and brutal conditions, and yet fighting on.  This presentation will show, through pictures and the words of the men themselves, who these men were, where they found themselves in wartime, what they coped with during the war, and why Irvington HS teacher Chris Barry chose to write a history of the regiment to share with all.
