Connecticut based Terrapin is an eclectic tribute band which plays an authentic mix of Grateful Dead and other vintage jam-centric music. Each show presents an original interpretation of songs that we have loved and listened to for most of our lives. Drawing upon decades of experience, the players in the group each dish out and carve unique helpings every night ; which when mixed together enlighten and entertain both the true “deadhead” veteran and the newly acquainted listener.
Geoff Schneider: Lead Guitar, Vocals, Musical Director. Close your eyes and you’ll hear mixes of Garcia, BB King and Santana. Keep an eye on him, because as the evening progresses you might just fall off your chair with some of his licks. Geoff designs the set lists. No two are ever the same. In one set alone, you may witness 50 years of Garcia!
Matthew “The Helm” Winthrop: Keyboards and Vocals. Having played classical and jazz as a child, and hailing from New York, Winthrop blends a little bit of Pig Pen, Keith Gotchaux and Brent Midland into every performance. His style is straight forward. He likes to add a little depth and space into the mix. But at the heart, he’s a blues piano player.
Paul Dunay: Guitar and Vocals. Watch out Bobby! Paul comes to play and maybe take some prisoners. He infuses his rhythms with attitude. Solid, interpretive and sharp! Plus, when Paul steps up to the mic to sing a tune … Well, you’ll just have to check it out for yourself.
Ric LuBell: Bass and Vocals. Another New Yorker. Hardest working player in the area. This “session quality” bass man lays down the licks and gets down to business. A solid foundation to the rhythm of Terrapin, Ric’s style is like that of Phil Lesh and Jack Cassidy. Plus, he’s been honing his chops with Allman Brothers tribute “Brothers of the Road” for years.
JP Geoghegan: The backbone of a band is often the most important. Right there in the pocket… always; JP brings it into town, puts it out in front of you, and just when you think you can have it..he moves in another direction. Joining Terrapin after a solid stint with our friends at the Stella Blues Band, JP is back in Connecticut, where he belongs.
Since 2013 Terrapin has played live almost 100 shows!
Every Terrapin show leaves that station about a quarter to nine. We look forward to spending some time with each and every one of you.
