Teen Workshop: Speculative Fiction Writing (via Zoom)

Teen Speculative Fiction Writing Workshop
Saturday, August 10
12:30-2:30 via Zoom

Are you ready to embark on a writing adventure where dreams come to life, galaxies collide, and magic pulses through every word? Look no further! Our workshop is a haven for young writers who crave limitless creativity and seek to weave untold tales.

Our special ingredient?  This mantra: “Live your YA fantasy. Be who you need.”

Your voice matters, now more than ever. So, fellow writer, grab our quills and let magic flow.

Here’s what awaits you:

  • Sensory Detail Exercise: awaken a Sense of Wonder in your readers through a deep dive into the senses as experience. Let your senses guide you, and watch your stories come alive.
  • Character Alchemy Free write: Step into your characters’ shoes. Feel the crunch of autumn leaves, taste the salt on ocean breezes, and hear the echoes of forgotten battles.  Forge solid characters. Peel back layers and engage in an immersive guided meditative space. Remember, they’re not just ink on paper—they’re souls waiting to be heard.

Writer of the WIP YA Fantasy Series Wanderling Willpower, Angie Somma is the Writer_of_Realms responsible for creating the Wanderverse. At the heart of my work are my experiences as a queer disabled nonbinary-woman. I focus on conscious storytelling for all persons of all identities, diversities, ethnicities, orientations, and abilities. I have lent my writing prowess to creative, business, and activism causes and strive to make positive changes in my respective fields and in the wider world. Currently a writer and educator in upstate New York, I was born and raised in a borough of New York City, and studied English Literature, Creative and Professional Writing and Secondary Education in English at Manhattanville College. My work has been published in Inkwell Magazine, the Anthology of Poetry, and various content on websites.  I have been the recipient of the: Karen Finley Scholarship for Women & Non-Binary Writers;  Hudson Valley Writers Center – Scholarship ( BIPOC, or LGBTQIA+); Hudson Valley Writers Guild: Writers in the Mountains Residency Scholarship; All Write, Columbia County Fiction Writers Conference Scholarship. (Nov 23) From a young age, I have known how the written word can change one’s circumstances.  With good, impactful writing, making these life changes can extend beyond the words on the page and into real societal change.
