About Tanzania

At almost 366,000 square miles and a population of 62 million, Tanzania is the 13th largest country in Africa. Situated on the eastern coast of Africa, it has an Indian Ocean coastline of approximately 885 miles long. Tanzania is the site of Africa’s highest and lowest points: Mount Kilimanjaro, at 19,341 feet above sea level, and the floor of Lake Tanganyika, at 4,826 feet below sea level, respectively.

Mount Kilimanjaro and the Serengeti (which is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa, and one of the ten natural travel wonders of the world) are two of biggest reasons why tourists flock to Tanzania. However, another reason that people travel to Tanzania is for its distinctive cuisine. Tanzanian foods represent a mixture of different cultures from around the world with strong influences from Asia, India, Portugal, Europe, and Persia (now Iran).

Another thing that Tanzanians share is their love of tea and coffee. Tea is the fourth largest export crop in Tanzania and Tanzania’s fourth major tea producer in Africa. In addition, Tanzania is amongst the major growers of Arabica, Robusta, and Peaberry coffee. Coffee production in Tanzania averages between 33,000 and 44,000 tons annually and is a significant aspect of Tanzania’s economy as it is the largest export crop. With all that it has to offer, you can see that Tanzania and its people are truly a geographical and ethnic treasure.
