In his ninth oratorio based on prominent biblical figures, Montez has tackled the larger than life character of the man who freed Israel from Egypt, parted the Res Sea, and brought the world the Ten Commandments. Other oratorios and operas have been written on the subject, but Montez abandons much of the pomp and pageantry of most of these works for something more sacred and devotional. He describes his work as inspired by the impressionism of Fauré and Ravel, the calculations of Prokofiev, and the harmonic fluidity of Rachmaninoff and Puccini.
