Summer Youth and Precollege – Journalism and Intro to Multi-Media Production
The Journalism and Multimedia Production Workshop invites high school students to step into the fast-paced world of modern journalism and explore the craft of producing impactful stories.
Students will be guided by a veteran television news producer whose career began at ABC Sports, followed by 13 years at Channel One News reporting from countries such as Iran, Somalia, Cambodia, and Albania. He later joined CBS News, where he has spent more than two decades producing both news and feature stories.
In this hands-on workshop, students will learn the fundamentals of reporting while exploring storytelling across print, video, online, and social media platforms. They will look beyond the headlines to understand how stories are developed and told.
Each student will choose a story from campus, conduct interviews with key sources, and produce an original piece to present at the program showcase. Along the way, they will begin to develop their own voice as writers and storytellers.
By the end of the workshop, students will leave with original work and practical experience in writing, communication, and visual storytelling—valuable skills that stand out in college applications and future careers.
On the final day, students will showcase a sample of their collaborative work, celebrating their storytelling and newfound knowledge with family, friends and peers.
