Summer Youth and Precollege – Graphic Design Workshop

The Graphic Design Workshop invites high school students to explore the art of communicating ideas through graphic and textual elements. Using both physical and digital examples, students will begin to see design everywhere.

Through the study of successful illustrations and animations, students will analyze and discuss effective communication and storytelling techniques. In afternoon maker labs, they will experiment with unexpected, expressive materials to loosen their image-making skills, respond to creative prompts, and explore animation techniques ranging from digital tools to stop-motion.

Students will gain an overview of the illustrator’s role across print and digital media, while learning how to incorporate motion and time to transform static designs into dynamic animations. They will develop the ability to turn ideas into expressive visuals using key design principles such as simplicity, balance, alignment, and negative space.

Throughout the workshop, students will learn to blend creativity with strategy, transforming concepts into impactful visual solutions.
