Suite Française – Conference by Sandra Smith

On March 7 come hear Sandra Smith discuss her translation of Suite Francaise, a fictional masterpiece set during the early German occupation of France. This story was written by Irene Nemirovsky, a young Jewish woman who traveled from eastern Europe to German occupied France where she was taken to Aushwitz and killed.

Join us to learn about this amazing woman, her life and her work.

In 2006 this translation won the French-American Foundation prize, the Florence Gould Foundation Translation Prize for fiction, and the PEN Book-of-the-Month Club Translation Prize. In 2015 Suite Française was adapted into a critically acclaimed film.

Sandra Smith currently lives in New York where she teaches at NYU, Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University. She has also taught 20th Century French Literature, Modern French Drama and Translation at Cambridge University.

The event begins at 7:00pm and doors open at 6:30pm.
