STEVE ROSSI: Problematic Parallels

STEVE ROSSI
Problematic Parallels
September 7 – October 28, 2017
Opening Reception: Wednesday, September 20, 5:30 – 7:00 pm
Artist’s Talk: 6:30 pm

In the sculpture-based Reciprocal Ladder series, the utilitarian function and visual form of a ladder has been subverted for aesthetic and metaphorical purposes, responding to the precariousness and uncertainty of our present social, economic, and political contexts. Steve Rossi’s interdisciplinary practice incorporates sculpture, photography, and performative actions while addressing issues and ideas related to systems of social organization, the hand-made and the mass-produced, permanence and ephemerality, and notions of community and shared experience in contemporary culture. He received his BFA from Pratt Institute in 2000 and his MFA from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 2006.
