Spring Mainstage Performance
Hudson Stage Company announces its spring mainstage production, a first in theatrical
history. Two British plays will be paired: A KIND OF ALASKA by Harold Pinter with A
NUMBER by Caryl Churchill. With special permission granted by the late Sir Harold
Pinterʼs widow, Lady Antonia Fraser, as a rare exception because he greatly admired
Ms. Churchillʼs work, this will be an opportunity for audiences to witness two of
Englandʼs greatest playwrights in tandem. This not-to-be-missed event will run for three
weekends only May 2nd-17th.
In A KIND OF ALASKA, inspired by an Oliver Sacksʼ story, a middle-aged woman wakes
up after nearly thirty years have passed in a coma induced by sleeping sickness. “ …A
masterpiece. Moves one in a way no work of his has ever done before. “ The Guardian.
“Profoundly eloquent about the fragile joy of being alive” The Daily Telegraph. A
NUMBER was the winner of the Evening Standard Award for Best Play. Human cloning
is the subject of this beguiling psychological thriller that blends scientific speculation
with a stunning portrait of the relationship between fathers and sons. “Rarely in my
theatre-going experience has a new play conveyed such a disturbing or enthralling
impression of domestic weirdness. ..An astonishing event”. Evening Standard
“Magnificent…what a tremendous play this is, moving, thought-provoking and
dramatically thrilling” Daily Telegraph
