Spring Concert

Come celebrate spring with St. Thomas Orchestra’s new identity – Excelsior Symphony Orchestra. Our concert on Sunday, April 21 at 3 p.m. at the Sommer Center (GPS: Concordia Place, Bronxville, N.Y.) features the return of guest conductor Teresa Cheung after her highly praised concert with us a year ago. The Trombone Concertino by Ferdinand David shows off the virtuosic chops of our soloist, Doug Denniston. Music Director William Eckfeld’s Xyklus 3 cycles through important solos for every orchestra section, building to a dance-like climax. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 is one of his most beloved and most often-performed works, filled with beautiful melodies as only Tchaikovsky could invent.

Tickets may be purchased here (click on the show time). Concert notes by Dr. Joshua Berrett are here.

Why a new name? We have expanded our educational activities to Hackley School and White Plains High School; we have a new Diversity on the Podium guest conductor program and while we had (and continue to have) very friendly relations with St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Mamaroneck, we never had an official connection, occasionally leading to confusion. (Thank you, St. Thomas for all your help!) After 22 years, it was time for a refresh. We are committed to “excel” and our New York home state’s motto is “Excelsior” – Always upward!
