Special Presentation: The Enduring Presence of Mamma in the Italian Kitchen

The image of the Italian mamma as central to Italian cuisine has always been beloved and a bit of a stereotype.  This lecture will show how important she was and how her role has changed in the 21st century. Are there any mammas left cooking or has the burden shifted to nonnas? Are young Italian women learning to cook or buying food at the supermarket both in Italy and the US? Who are the most important women professional chefs right now and what do they contribute? John Mariani is a three-time nominee for the James Beard Journalism Award and a columnist for Esquire and Bloomberg News. A light reception is offered prior to the beginning of the presentation from 6:30pm to 7:00pm.

Must register in advance and prepay. Members $20, Non-Members $25
