Class Description:

The Cyanotype is an analogue photographic printing process dating back to 1842, creating an archival cyan-blue print using natural solar light. In this in person workshop teaching artist Farah Marie Velten will share historical details of the method and guide students in a step by step hands on practice where they will make one of a kind artworks to take home.
The class will include a nature walk where students will be invited to collect wild botanicals for their printed pieces. All materials and supplies will be provided. Students are welcome to bring flat and transparent items to print. No experience necessary. All ages welcome.

About the Instructor:

Farah Marie Velten is an interdisciplinary artist based in New York City. Her work has drawn inspiration from her original home of California, her international and domestic chapters, and her current home of NY.

Often focusing on alternative analogue photographic processes, she explores our relationship to the natural world as human beings, confronting blurred boundaries between the internal and external world, considering both time and space as forces to navigate in both her physical and performative work, teachings, and support to multiple arts institutions. More information on our visiting teaching artist can be found on her website at farahmarievelten.com .
