Sogetsu Ikebana Workshop: Basic Upright Arrangement

Using three main or shushi stems, Shin being the longest stem, Soe as the second longest stem (usually of branch materials), and Hikae as the shortest stem (usually a flower), students will design their own upright style to be arranged. Subsequent stems called jushi will be added. The instructor will demonstrate the proportionate length of the main stems to the container and the different angles used to create the relationship among the branches and flowers through diagrams and sample arrangements. Students will focus on correctly inserting the stems into the oasis (usually one uses a pinholder or kenzan for securing it). The arrangement will reflect the season or focus on color, line or mass depending on the materials used. All registered participants will be provided with supplies to create and take home their own arrangements.

$50 Materials Included (RSVP Required)
