Slapering Hol Press Presents 2023 Chapbook Contest winner Russell Karrick & mentor Renée Ashley (In Person at HVWC)

Please join the Slapering Hol Press co-editors as they welcome the 2023 Chapbook Contest winner Russell Karrick. He will be joined by his mentor, Renée Ashley, for a reading and Q&A about the process of putting together a first collection. Karrick and Ashley will be reading live and in-person at the Hudson Valley Writers Center in Sleepy Hollow, NY. The event will also be recorded and posted to YouTube at the end of the season.

Russell Karrick is a poet and translator who lives in Colombia. He is a recipient of World Literature Today’s Student Translation Award and Lunch Ticket’s Gabo Prize for Literature in Translation & Multilingual Texts. His poetry has appeared in Redivider, The Offing, Bat City Review, Spoon River Poetry Review, and Magma Poetry, among others. Russell Karrick earned his MFA in creative writing from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Renée Ashley’s publications include Minglements: Prose on Poetry and Life and seven volumes of poetry, the most recent, Ruined Traveler (Otis Books, Otis College of Art and Design), The View from the Body (Black Lawrence Press), and Because I Am the Shore I Want To Be the Sea (Subito Book Prize, University of Colorado—Boulder). A portion of her poem “First Book of the Moon,” is included in a permanent installation by the artist Larry Kirkland in Penn Station, NYC. She has received fellowships in both poetry and prose from the NJSCA and a fellowship in poetry from the NEA. She taught for twenty years at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s MFA in Creative Writing and the MA in Literature and Creative Writing for Educators. She lives in northern New Jersey.
