This beloved, thoroughly hummable Gene Kelly–Debbie Reynolds comedy is the ultimate movie musical. It’s got world-class dancing, unforgettable songs (“Make ’em Laugh,” “Moses Supposes,” and “Good Morning,” not to mention the title number), superb supporting performances (Jean Hagen as the classic dumb blonde, Donald O’Connor as Kelly’s witty, acrobatic sidekick), and a light-hearted depiction of an early Hollywood studio trying to make the difficult transition to sound.
