RiverArts Music Tour 2023 at Untermyer Park features three different performances of World Music!

1:00 pm:  Tpi Tapi:  Afrodelic and beyond!  Tapi Tapi reinvents some of the most beautiful music traditions of Zimbabwe with an East Village edge. The hypnotic dream melodies of mbira soar with stinging guitar riffs, violen lines drawn from mbira, and celestial ancient vocal harmonies in a deep meld of African spirituality and expressive pop.  Vocalists are Nora Balaban and Rima Fand;  Banning Eyre plays the guitar;  Nora Balaban also plays the mbira and Rima Fand adds sweet touches of the violin.

2:00 pm: Universal Drum Sounds/Yonkers Drums with Jamal Blackman. Feel the amazing power of the drums!  Energize with Yonkers Native Jalal Blackman and share the pure joy of drumming. Explore traditional instruments such as Djembe, dunnun, conga, shakers, and bells.

 3:00 pm:  Kaya Nicole.  Kaya Nicole is a vocalist, guitarist and composer originally from New York City. Influenced by her proximity to jazz and hip hop in the city that never sleeps, Kaya is a lover of a groove with a rhythmic and sultry vocal style. Recipient of the Arts Alive grant and participant of the New York Foundation of the Arts fiscally sponsored program, Kaya continues her legacy of storytelling through her debut original project: “Magnolias,” going into production in 2023.
