Registration for Fall Adult and Youth classes at Clay Art Center

Clay Art Center Offers Classes 7 days per week for children, tweens and teens and 2-3 Adult Classes daily, for all levels and interests.

Clay is touching the lives of hundreds of students every semester. Youth and teen classes are offered after school and on the weekend at home in Port Chester and in our White Plains Satellite classroom in partnership with ArtsWestchester. Youth have fun working on weekly projects where they use their imaginations and learn technical skills. Sculptural projects test the limits of clay and imaginations. Teens and tweens learn the basics of using the potter’s wheel in a supportive environment. All students are encouraged to explore their own ideas while learning a new skill set, expanding their creative problem solving capabilities while immersing themselves in this messy and fun media.

Adult classes and workshops are offered from beginning to advanced, wheel throwing on the pottery wheel, figure sculpture and more. Morning, evening and weekend semester-long classes are available- in addition to six week and one-time classes for those wanting to get their feet wet. Cladies Night, Our newest and most popular addition is a great bar alternative on Friday nights. Offered weekly beginning in the Fall, this is a great girls’ night out or date night. Participants have fun and get their hand dirty while learning to use the potter’s wheel.

Also new this fall, Saturday Drop-In Clay Class: two hours of fun for families and friends. In November and December, Clay Art Center will be offering weekly Holiday themed mini classes for all levels. Topics include making menorahs, candlesticks, ornaments and jewelry for gifts and home decor.

Each week, our classes gather  to create, relax, escape from daily stresses and experience the transformative powers of clay. During classes, students learn the techniques of working with clay and Clay Art Center teaching artists share their knowledge, experience and insight. Class sizes are small to maximize the learning potential of each student. Over 40 hours of Open Studio are available to current students per week.

Fall Classes begin September 5, 2014. Interested participants can find a full listing on our website. People are encouraged to stop by to find out more, take a tour, and meet our teaching artists and residents. The goal of our classes is to offer a new way to express and engage in self discovery in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Clay Art Center also has an exciting line-up of workshops for the fall semester. In addition to regular monthly Raku workshops, on September 28, Professor Emeritus of Skidmore College Regis Brodie will give a workshop entitled Second Generation Tarpaper Construction: Continuing & Expanding. This workshop will allow participants to explore and maximize building potential using tar paper construction. On October 18-19, artist and Educator Gail Kendall and art for social change activist Michael Strand will give a workshop give a  A Weekend Pottery Workshop. The two  are friends in art and life. Although their goals are seemingly different, in this workshop they will share their commonalities and explore their different paths while also talking about pottery, pottery making, techniques and technologies.
