Rae Smith Master Pastelist Artist Reception Sept. 16
Rae Smith, Master Pastelist, PSA Hall Honoree for 2014 and faculty member at Katonah Art Center, will be exhibiting her pastels and oil paintings at the Anderson Chase Gallery on September 9 – October 14, 2017.
Rae describes her work as being “all about emotion, mood and atmosphere.” and states “I am always looking for the ‘out of the ordinary’ feeling in a composition.” Her life long passion for painting has been expressed through water colors, oils, pastels, pen and ink or a combination of several of these mediums. Rae’s work has ranged from abstract to more realistic and her current paintings are mostly pastel landscapes.
She has exhibited her work throughout the United States as well as many countries throughout the world including the following venues: The National Taiwan Art Center; Art Du Pastel En France; The China Museum and Butler Institute of American Art, where she is in it’s permanent colletion. Rae has won many awards including: Pastel Society of America and Master Circle Award of the International Association of Pastel Societies, 2017, Award for Artistic Excellence, Salmagundi Club, NYC 2010 and The Gold Medal from Audubon Artists in 2001. Rae graduated from Franklin School of Art in New York. She has also been featured in many books, magazines and is listed in Who’s Who in American Art and The Dictionary of American Painters, Sculptors and Engravers.
