Public Art in the Courtyard: Mirari by Lauren and Dylan Cotton

Mirari by Lauren and Dylan Cotton

September 9 – December 10, 2016

Opening reception and Free All Ages Workshop: Friday, September 9, 2016, 6:30-8PM with musical performance by Jazzy 3.

Mirari is a large-scale psychotropic glass sculpture, consisting of a clustered myraid of both mirrored and vividly opaque glass bulb-like forms seated on a metal base painted with similar configurations and colors as the glass itself. The intention of the sculpture is to create a microcosm to enhance and reflect the structural framework and environment of the Pelham Art Center, visible in the round at three hundred and sixty degrees. The reflective glass forms reveal infinite visual possibilities within the space, while bouncing off tinted shadows from their palatial colored counterparts. Any architectural feature or person being echoed by the work becomes anamorphic, skewed and endless. People walking past or interacting with the piece will also add a kinetic element to the work, as their corporal actions will be mirrored, emulating an unconscious aspect of physical relation and perception.
