Portrait Painting Demonstration by Yuka Imata

PORTRAIT PAINTING DEMONSTRATION
by
YUKA IMATA

Thursday March 01, 2018, 6:00-8:00 pm
Free Attendance

Pelham Art Center is excited to offer a free demonstration by the recognized portrait artist Yuka Imata. This is a unique opportunity to learn about the process and thoughts a professional portrait painter goes through when starting a portrait. Whether you paint or not, this will be an interesting evening exploring creativity in action.

The demonstration will explore the portrait process step by step, from drawing the composition in charcoal on the canvas to a complete lay-out in oil paints. As she works, Yuka will share her thoughts on light and shadow, colors, and paint strokes.

Yuka Imata earned her B.F.A. at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, then studied for several years at The Art Students League of New York where she won the Xavier Gonzales and Ethel Edwards Grant for studies in Spain. She has received awards from the Salmagundi and Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Clubs and was featured in American Artist and Plein Air Magazine. In 2016 she was featured on the cover of Drawing Magazine and in an eight-page article. Yuka has exhibited at the Chelsea Art Museum, National Arts Club, Cork Gallery at Lincoln Center, and overseas in Florence, Tokyo, Yokohama and at the Museum of Kyoto. Her portrait commissions includes Montefiore Hospital (Bronx, NY), Fife n’ Drum Restaurant (Kent, CT) and a number of private commissions. She appeared on ESPN “Face to Face” in 2015 showing her seven charcoal drawings of athletes.  Yuka is represented by The Good Gallery (CT). Learn more about her work at www.yukaimata.com
