Got My Wings, a dance triptych exploring the metaphor of light, freedom, and hope Original score by Dan Blake and Choreography by Todd Hall and James Jandrok.

“Where do we find our freedom?” This question is a wake-up call posed by Jarvis Jay Masters, a Buddhist practitioner who has been incarcerated and on death row in San Quentin, CA for over four decades (read more at As part of Bethany Arts Community’s 2022 “Season of Justice”, Got My Wings is a new triptych by composer and saxophonist Dan Blake in collaboration with ballet choreographer Todd Hall and break dancer James Jandrok. In bringing together distinct movement traditions and a diverse range of musical styles, Got My Wings reimagines Masters’ question through the metaphor of flight. The work will include immersive soundscapes performed live by the composer, and will also feature performances by Syril Hunter, Paul House, Cayla Blake, and members of the Westchester Ballet Company.

This event begins with a talk by Daniel Blake and special guests to learn more about Jarvis Jay Masters’ story, the prison reform movement, and prison advocacy happening around Westchester, with a focus on how creative art, education, and spiritual mentorship can make a pivotal difference in the lives of incarcerated people.
