BID Music on the Green presents Glenda Davenport and the Hiroshi Yamazaki Quartet
Great music, good vibes, and summer breezes add up to terrific evenings, when the BID Music on the Green series returns with three terrific outdoor concerts. It all happens under the stars and in the heart of downtown New Rochelle, in Ruby Dee Park on Library Green. Bring friends, a picnic, and a blanket or lawn chair—and be sure to wear your dancing shoes. The free, popular outdoor concerts are made possible by the New Rochelle Downtown Business Improvement District (BID), in cooperation with the New Rochelle Parks & Recreation and the New Rochelle Public Library.
Jazz vocalist Glenda Davenport began her singing career in 1992 and has been performing steadily in the tri-state area in jazz clubs, concert stages and private parties. Born in to a musical family, Glenda was a winner at The World Famous Apollo Theater’s Amateur Night in April 1993. She performs regularly with accompanist Hiroshi Yamazaki in duo, trio, quartet and quintet settings, and has also performed with Don Friedman, Bill Crow, Carmen Leggio, Michael Carbone, Jerry Bruno, Houston Person, Sarah Jane Cion and Danny Mixon, to name just a few! “A fantastic entertainer, a wide ranging explosive, yet sultry voice, and a beautiful face are the ingredients that combine to make Glenda Davenport,” raved saxophonist Jimmy Hill. “If you’ve seen her once, you must see her again.” Local fan heartily agree!
In the event of rain, the concert moves indoors to the Ossie Davis Theater of the New Rochelle Public Library, on a first-come, first-served basis to the capacity of the 138-seat theater, beginning at 6:45 pm. Call 9914) 632-8254 for weather updates, after 4 pm on the day of the concert.
