Opening Reception: “Ripples”
Opening Reception: “Ripples”
Saturday, April 20, 4-8 p.m.
Show dates: April 16 – May 12
Ripples is the name of the new exhibition at Chroma Fine Art Gallery on view now through May 12. This show features the work of two mixed media artists Angela Rustici and Mitchell Visoky. Join us for the Opening Reception, which coincides with the first Katonah Art Walk of the season, on April 20th, from 4 to 8pm.
Ripples can be defined as “small waves on the surface of water;” or “sounds or feelings that spread, gradually increasing and then becoming smaller.” The paintings currently hanging on the walls of Chroma Gallery radiate sophisticated, harmonious reverberations. “Angela and Mitchell each operate at the highest level of conception, as well as production. I paired these two artists I recognize in them a similar sensitivity and intellectual approach.”
In the new body of work on display, Angeli Rustici explores how to convey sound through visual methods. She applies encaustic (hot, pigmented wax) to textured surfaces, and proceeds to layer and scrape away, letting the process determine how much to reveal or conceal. The resulting pieces evoke phenomena associated with vibrations and fluid movements: waves, tones, tides, pages of sheet music.
Mitchell Visoky brings instinct, intuition and “a sense of adventure” to the creation of his multidisciplinary works. He excels at fusing disparate elements to create harmonious, yet unexpected, compositions. His contributions to the exhibition present an appealing tension between levity and gravitas, action and statis. Each piece sings out with a unique tempo, timbre, pitch, and volume. Collectively the works feel symphonic, and offer a beautiful counterpoint to Rustici’s work.
