Opening Reception: “Cornell Capa: Father of Concerned Photography”
The Capa Space invites you to join us for the Opening Reception of “Cornell Capa: Father of Concerned Photography.” Cornell Capa, brother of legendary war photographer Robert Capa and founder of the International Center for Photography revolutionized documentary photography when he coined the term “concerned photography” in 1967. He believed photographers should be “concerned with their world and times,” using their cameras as instruments of social awareness to educate, inform, and inspire change.
The exhibition features over 35 photographs spanning Capa’s extraordinary career, including his intimate portraits of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy during pivotal moments in American history, his powerful documentation of social conditions in South America, his compelling work on mental health institutions, and his coverage of religious and cultural life across continents. From the corridors of power to forgotten corners of society, Capa’s lens never wavered from his commitment to human dignity and social justice.
