Open Studios with Rose Marie Cromwell and Christina Pettersson

KinoSaito invites you to our next open studio event with our current artists in residence, Rose Marie Cromwell and Christina Pettersson. Peek into their studios and chat with them about their practices.

Rose Marie Cromwell (https://www.rosemariecromwell.com/about) is a photo and video artist whose work explores the effects of globalization on human interaction and social politics, and the tenuous space between the political and spiritual. She is from Seattle, has lived the past 15 years between New York and Latin America, and is currently based in Miami. Her work has been exhibited at galleries nationwide and in Panama City and London. Cromwell’s recent books, A More Fluid Atmosphere and Eclipse, were published in 2021. Her photos have appeared in The New Yorker and British Journal of Photography, among other publications. She has received many grants and fellowships, including a Getty Reportage Grant and Fulbright Award to Panama. Cromwell holds an MFA from Syracuse University and BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art.

Christina Pettersson (https://christinapettersson.com/home.html) is a Swedish-born multimedia

artist whose work explores resurrection and savage demise on a grand scale. Her drawings,

sculptures, and performances, reference classic mythology and literature, revealing an allegiance to the wilderness of a bygone era. It is a stage materialized from the often brutal, but beautiful, Everglades of her hometown, which she has spent a lifetime exploring. Pettersson’s work has been exhibited at the Perez Art Museum Miami, Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami, and Launch F18, NY, among other venues. She has received many prestigious awards and fellowships, such as a Fulbright to study at the Valand School of Fine Arts in Sweden and a Yaddo residency in Saratoga Springs, NY. Pettersson earned a BFA in Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

KinoSaito and Oolite Arts are pleased to announce this new partnership with Oolite Arts. The inaugural four-week onsite residency program will host two Miami artists who were selected by Oolite Arts via a competitive application process. This year’s awardees are Christina Pettersson and Rose Marie Cromwell.
