Online Writing Workshop: Illuminating the Dark: Flash Fiction with Anna Potter

This online class will be taught via Zoom. Zoom is a very user-friendly platform to facilitate online classes using a computer. Expect to receive login instructions from your instructor prior to the class date.

This is the second part of a two-part class. However newcomers are welcome to join us Saturday, March 28 from 12:30-2:30pm. for the half price rate of $62.

This intensive generative workshop on the joys of writing flash fiction. If novels are baggy monsters (shout-out to Henry James), then flash fictions are sea sparkle, the bioluminescent plankton that light up when agitated. The best flash uses the condensed form as a way to express emotion that would get obscured by too many details. We do not always need to know the particulars of a character to grasp their most desperate desires, their regrets, their fear that what is lost might never be found. We’ll read a range of flash pieces for inspiration, and we’ll practice techniques for revising for punch and clarity. We will also discuss the many journals who are accepting submissions for flash and what editors look for in flash. Poets, fiction, and creative nonfiction writers are all welcome.
