Online Poetry Workshop: The Prose Poem Master Class with Sean Singer (via Zoom)


The prose poem is an oxymoron and a contradiction. It began as a revolutionary genre and remains so. This form can include wide ranges of expression and perception— lyrical to narrative; unity and fragment; expanse and compactness; and surprise without line breaks. This seminar/craft class/workshop will examine a range of examples from Charles Baudelaire to Arthur Rimbaud to Robert Hass to Friederike Mayrocker.

Sean Singer is the author of Discography (Yale University Press, 2002), winner of the Yale Series of Younger Poets Prize, and the Norma Farber First Book Award from the Poetry Society of America and a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts; and Honey & Smoke (Eyewear Publishing, 2015).
