On the Sunny Side of the Hudson Flower Show

The members of the Garden Club are planning their upcoming flower show, which—through flowers and plants—will celebrate the life and work of Irvington’s own Washington Irving.

The floral design themes include “Short Stories” (miniature arrangements displayed on a mantelpiece) and “Sleepy Hollow Awakenings” (designs that will feature some flowers in bud and others in full bloom.) The horticulture classes will include “Rip Van Winkle” alpine garden troughs and “Ichabod Crane” herbaceous perennials. There will be a display of photographs of historic houses and gardens at rest, among other subjects, and a conservation exhibit explaining the importance of native plants in landscapes.

The show, chaired by Barbara Defino, will be free and open to the public at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, and from 10 am to 1 pm on Thursday, May 11, at the Lyndhurst Carriage House.
