Downtown Music at Grace is excited to present the Oscar® winning documentary, The Lady in Number 6: Music Saved My Life, the inspiring story of 109 year old Alice Herz Sommer. Ms. Sommer, concert pianist and Holocaust survivor, shares her views on how to live a long and happy life in this 35 minute film from Director, Malcolm Clarke.
A recital by pianist Irena Portenko follows, featuring works of Chopin mentioned in the film. Ms. Portenko is an exceptional artist, performing as a soloist with orchestras all over the world and in chamber music ensembles with many distinguished artists. As a passionate educator, Ms. Portenko takes pride in her Westchester, NY studio and with her guidance, passion and hard work, she inspires her students to strive toward and win top awards at international piano competitions and festivals
