Nicholas Adams is professor emeritus of architectural history at Vassar College. He has published widely on the architectural firm of Skidmore Owings & Merrill, notably Skidmore Owings & Merrill: SOM Since 1936, the first independently authored book on the firm. SOM designed many of the great office buildings and factories of post-WW II American business and industry. Adams is currently completing a biography of Gordon Bunshaft, one of SOM’s primary designers, to be published by Yale University Press in 2019.

Historic Preservation Speaker Series

This is the first of the Westchester Community College Department of the Humanities three-part Historic Preservation speaker series on the architectural history of the Hudson Valley region. As a prelude to offering a certificate program in Historic Preservation, this series examines topics related to historic preservation and architectural history, focusing on New York State and the Hudson Valley region in particular. Each talk features a scholar in the field who will discuss their research and writings.
